Ki Sung-Yueng “The Korean Gerrard”

Born in the 24th of January 1989, this 21 year old Korean talent is making his name in the Football business. Ki Sung-Yeung also known as David KI (by his English name) originally from Gwangju, South Korea. He was sent to Australia where he acquired his English name David. Once a professional football player of South Korea, the proud Korean now plays under the Scottish Premier League club Celtic FC. Made his way all the way to the top with his unique visions and technique, together with his accuracy and range of his set piece and passing. This six feet two inches tall guy is on of the ace of Celtic FC in the 2010 World Cup. The “Korean Gerrard” as he was labeled in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

Wearing jersey number 18 in the Celtic FC Ki started his football career in Australia. Under the BSP or the Brain Soccer Program of the John Paul College found in Queensland Australia Ki won U-15 Nationals also known as the Bill Turner Cup in 2004. During this time Ki was asked to join the FC Seoul. In order to pursue his career he went back to Korea in 2005 where he joined K-League. He started participating the world cup in the year 2007 FIFA U-20. During this time Manchester United’s Manger Alex Ferguson admitted that KI is one of the upcoming football star and he has been setting his eye to Ki although out the 2007 U-20 World Cup. Although he failed to score on the 2007 season Ki got back on his feet by being the key player of the FC Seoul in the 2008 season. One of the biggest rivals of Seoul that time was the Suwon Samsung Blue wings but Ki manage to score goal. His team reach the runner up position with 4 goals and 1 assist during the whole 21 appearances. In the early 2009 season his team scored 6-1 against the Chunhum Dragons.

Ki’ signed up for him to transfer for FC Seoul to Celtic FC on the 13th of December 2009. His dabut under the Celtic Fc was a 1-1 draw against the Falkrik at parhead on the 16th of January 2010. Indeed the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa is the key to Ki Sung-Yueng football career. As said earlier passing and free-kick expertise of this Korean Midfielder, this techniques are expected to be seen trough out South Africa 2010.

According to Ki he is neither a defensive midfielder who fights for the ball with tough tackles, nor an attacking midfielder who plays behind strikers. For him being a midfielder is not just about tackles and wrestler. It has to have the right combination of techniques to be fruitful. In his younger years this Korean football sensation really had faith in his free kicks enough reason for him to pursue his goal. As where he is now his purpose is served. He also admitted that he look up to Steven Gerrard of Liverpool and ought to play like him to succeed. This guy has been called the Korean Gerrard obviously from his idol.

It was his Dream to be part of the world cup he once said that if he made it there then it would be a time for him to improve. He is looking forward for his team to make it in the last 16 and he would make a goal himself. During their las t game against Greece Ki once says that they have to do the best they got in order to win the first game. He also added that if they would loose the first game against Greece it would be a big problem during the whole cup. As what he says Celtic FC Scores 2 by 0 defeating Greece.
